What Digital Marketing Trends Do You Need To Know About?

As we’re moving into not only a new year but a new decade now is the perfect time to take stock of your digital marketing strategy and decide what you need to work on in the coming 12 months.

Things can move quickly in the digital marketing world, so it’s important to keep an eye on the top trends in this area.

We’ve rounded up some of the ones you need to be aware of in the coming 12 months. Remember, if you need assistance with content creation in Buckinghamshire , we’re here to help.

According to The Tech Portal , one area to focus on is the use of artificial intelligence (AI). It is predicting that companies that don’t embrace this technology are missing out because of all the benefits it can bring.

In addition to helping you more effectively target your online advertising, you can also use AI chatbots to respond to customer queries, freeing up your team to concentrate on other tasks. These programmes have become increasingly sophisticated and now use natural language programming to make them sound like a real person rather than a computer.

Personalisation is set to be more important than ever. Customers expect to be marketed to based on their browsing history, their previous orders or other preferences that your business is aware of. When you fail to tailor your messages to them, you’ll lose out to competitors who do.

Business2Community also highlighted some top digital marketing trends to watch - one of which is voice search.

This is an area that you can’t afford to ignore. People are increasingly using voice search on their mobiles when they’re looking for products, recommendations or general answers online. That means if your website isn’t optimised for voice search you’ll see your site slide down the rankings.

What’s more, over half (55 per cent) of homes are expected to own smart speakers by 2022, which isn’t a lot of time to get your digital house in order.

Interactive content is another area where your business can capitalise on what consumers are looking for. According to the news provider, 91 per cent of consumers want to see more interactive content when they’re shopping online.

This presents a number of opportunities for your business, particularly if you operate in ecommerce. Think shoppable posts on social media, incorporating VR or AR into your product pages, or adding some polls or quizzes to your site.

Another thing you need to consider when you’re producing content for your online audience is transparency.

As well as covering how you handle and use consumer information - which you need to be on top of following the introduction of GDPR legislation - this also relates to other aspects of your business from your supply chain to your brand story.

The key is to make any information about your brand or company easy to understand and simple.

There are also plenty of trends from 2019 that are going to continue growing in 2020, including the rise of video content, a growing use of influencers to reach out to your target audience and just as much of a focus on content marketing.

Public relations (PR) is not a new invention. In fact, the precursor to modern PR can trace its origins back centuries to the early days of mass media in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Of course, the world has changed considerably since then and the arrival of the internet forced the PR profession, along with many others, to evolve once again. This is when digital PR entered the frame. What is digital PR? As its name suggests, digital PR specifically focuses on reaching your customers in their online worlds. It’s not the same as digital marketing, but digital PR activities should tie in closely with your broader marketing strategy. Digital PR is all about starting conversations with your audience and making sure they see and hear from you in an increasingly noisy online environment. That means it needs to be carefully targeted to ensure it not only reaches the right people but that it also delivers the right message. In this way, it is not dissimilar to traditional PR, which involves placing clients in relevant print publications or broadcast shows to widen their reach. However, in the digital world, life works slightly differently. This means targeted campaigns are particularly important and the messaging you use needs to be adapted for different channels.

In sub-Saharan Africa, an interesting relationship takes place hippos and oxpecker birds (honestly, bear with me on this one). The hippo needs help with the ticks and parasites that live on its skin and the oxpeckers help out by picking off the parasites and eating them. The oxpeckers get what they want – a tasty meal. And the hippo gets cleaner, healthier skin. It’s a win-win situation. It's impossible to say whether either species values the other—but each undoubtedly plays a vital role in the other's wellbeing. This example of mutualism often comes to mind when people talk about the relationship between journalists and PRs. It’s a case of mutuality, without question, but there’s often a simmering animosity between the two. To generate truly effective PR you need to understand the needs of both sides. And that’s where Flourish excels.
