Things To Consider For Ecommerce Branding

The internet has made it easier than ever to set up as a retailer, but that means that when you do, you’ll have lots of competition. As a result, you need your branding to be on point so that you can stand out for the right reasons and attract plenty of customers.

Forbes recently offered some top tips for ecommerce businesses when it comes to branding, and we think they’re worth bearing in mind.

CEO of athleisure brand LA Society Frank Horowitz told the publication where he thinks businesses can improve their branding.

Among the advice he offered was to create a community for your customers. Mr Horowitz explained that by creating this community that embraces your products and embodies your brand, you’ll encourage people to come back and shop with you time and again.

People love to feel like they’re part of something bigger, which is why it’s worth taking the time to create a community around your brand. Social media is the obvious place to start, and a great way to get a buzz going about your products.

“Nothing helps a business stand out in a crowded market quite like a consistently loyal tribe of customers spreading the word to their friends,” he asserted.

Mr Horowitz also explained that PR is vital for building a brand. You need your customers to know you’re there, which is particularly important when you’re just starting out.

“You can have the best products on the market, and even the best mission in the world, but if no one knows your business exists, it doesn’t stand a chance at competing in a crowded market,” he said.

If you’re not sure where to begin with your PR and social media, it’s certainly worth getting help from a PR agency in Marlow. They will be able to help you create a strategy that works for your brand and that will spread the word about your business in the most effective way possible.

When it comes to branding, there are some other things to think about, as a recent article for Business Matters Magazinepointed out.

The publication highlighted some of the most common pitfalls people make when setting up an ecommerce business and trying to get their branding right. One of the biggest errors is to make your target audience too broad.

As the news provider explained, many people tend to shop at specialist stores online, rather than general retailers. This means that if you don’t make your brand specific enough, you risk missing out on the people who are most likely to buy your products.

When you’re just starting out, it can be all too easy to spread yourself too thinly as well. You’re much better off by really targeting your message to appeal to a narrow but specific type of customer and using your time and energy to provide them with the best possible products and service.

One of the ways to do this is through your branding. You need this to be well-defined, otherwise people won’t notice you and will certainly forget you given how much competition there is in online retail.

Public relations (PR) is not a new invention. In fact, the precursor to modern PR can trace its origins back centuries to the early days of mass media in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Of course, the world has changed considerably since then and the arrival of the internet forced the PR profession, along with many others, to evolve once again. This is when digital PR entered the frame. What is digital PR? As its name suggests, digital PR specifically focuses on reaching your customers in their online worlds. It’s not the same as digital marketing, but digital PR activities should tie in closely with your broader marketing strategy. Digital PR is all about starting conversations with your audience and making sure they see and hear from you in an increasingly noisy online environment. That means it needs to be carefully targeted to ensure it not only reaches the right people but that it also delivers the right message. In this way, it is not dissimilar to traditional PR, which involves placing clients in relevant print publications or broadcast shows to widen their reach. However, in the digital world, life works slightly differently. This means targeted campaigns are particularly important and the messaging you use needs to be adapted for different channels.

In sub-Saharan Africa, an interesting relationship takes place hippos and oxpecker birds (honestly, bear with me on this one). The hippo needs help with the ticks and parasites that live on its skin and the oxpeckers help out by picking off the parasites and eating them. The oxpeckers get what they want – a tasty meal. And the hippo gets cleaner, healthier skin. It’s a win-win situation. It's impossible to say whether either species values the other—but each undoubtedly plays a vital role in the other's wellbeing. This example of mutualism often comes to mind when people talk about the relationship between journalists and PRs. It’s a case of mutuality, without question, but there’s often a simmering animosity between the two. To generate truly effective PR you need to understand the needs of both sides. And that’s where Flourish excels.
