Unlock business potential through thought leadership

A ‘thought leader’ is not something you can be without the commendation of those in your field. This title is not an easy one to obtain as it is somewhat down to the opinion of others, including your peers, stakeholders, employees, public and even competitors.
So, how and why is it important to provide a new way of thinking that is insightful and valuable to your peers? The simple answer is that becoming a thought leader unlocks new doors. It is much more than being knowledgeable or experienced, it is about showcasing your knowledge, opinion and experience to position yourself at the front of the queue.
In business circles and especially in today’s climate, credibility is essential, and this comes part and parcel with thought leadership which is all about being recognised as a trusted source. Conveying thought leadership can be done in several ways, including:
Contributing articles to relevant media: The more often you are published, the more your brand will be recognised. Once you establish yourself, that is when people will begin to come to you for your ideas and opinions. Getting published regularly to discuss trends or subjects which are current and topical is imperative to gain traction and will result in the media coming to you. Don’t be afraid to go against the grain – remember the idea is to disrupt thinking and provide thought provoking ideas.
Networking and speaking: You likely do this without noticing and the more you do, the more natural it comes. Regularly attending, hosting, or speaking at events is also integral to getting yourself recognised. You never know which connections will come in good stead in the future and sometimes it’s all about who knows of you. Despite the modern times, a lot of business is still done the old-fashioned way, face-to-face even if it is via Zoom!
Social media: Social media can act as a springboard for thought leadership enabling you to self-publish content. Refreshing your LinkedIn profile and regularly publishing content there, for instance, is pivotal to building your online identity. It is also a place where you can share your wins whether this be announcing new hires, awards, or being published in a magazine.
In business competition is fierce. Harnessed well this can be a good thing which provides fuel to grow your business, brand, or organisation. Thought leadership provides a way for you to stand out from the crowd.
