Don’t Forget About Audio Marketing!

You have a huge number of avenues available to you these days when it comes to brand advertising and marketing, particularly when it comes to digital media - but there’s one format that you may have forgotten about when faced with flashy new tech innovation.

That’s the radio, of course… but neglecting this particular medium may not be the wisest of business moves and you could be missing out on all sorts of golden opportunities to reach your target market in a very cost-effective way.

Because radio isn’t as expensive as others to produce, it’s the perfect place to start thinking creatively and experiment with different ways of getting the message out there, without seriously heavy investment.

One major advantage of radio is its portability and as a brand you’re able to reach people wherever they are and wherever they’re going… and with the increasing popularity of streaming audio networks, where better place to focus your campaign attentions in the near future than the likes of Spotify.

You’ll also find that you have a wide range of options available to you if you decide you do want to make audio content your focus over the next few months.

One of the most popular forms of audio content is the not-so-humble podcast. These have been around since 2004 and have been growing in popularity ever since, so the only question that must be asked at this point is - if you haven’t made your first podcast yet, why not?

Some podcasts have millions of listeners and you’ll find that a huge range of different topics are covered… and it’s likely that, with the rise of home smart speakers, audience numbers are only going to grow over the next few years.

Our top tip for creating your first podcast is to make sure you choose a particular topic or niche within your industry, rather than discussing the specifics of your business. You want to engage with people and the best way to do that is to find common ground, something that affects you both.

Something else you could consider for your audio content strategy are audiobooks and you could pull these together relatively quickly by repurposing content that you already have. Or you could incorporate it at the outset when making your next video or ebook.

Choosing a narrator is an important consideration so do give it the appropriate amount of thought. People will need to respond well to the voice they’re hearing - but remember that the personal touch also goes a long way so, depending on the topic, you may well want to narrate it yourself.

If that’s the case, make sure you give yourself enough time to practice, thinking about the natural rhythm and tempo of the words, and making sure that you vary the mood, pace and voice of the words (in line with what you’re reading, of course).

In sub-Saharan Africa, an interesting relationship takes place hippos and oxpecker birds (honestly, bear with me on this one). The hippo needs help with the ticks and parasites that live on its skin and the oxpeckers help out by picking off the parasites and eating them. The oxpeckers get what they want – a tasty meal. And the hippo gets cleaner, healthier skin. It’s a win-win situation. It's impossible to say whether either species values the other—but each undoubtedly plays a vital role in the other's wellbeing. This example of mutualism often comes to mind when people talk about the relationship between journalists and PRs. It’s a case of mutuality, without question, but there’s often a simmering animosity between the two. To generate truly effective PR you need to understand the needs of both sides. And that’s where Flourish excels.

Let’s be honest - emojis aren’t just for group chats and Instagram captions anymore. Whether it’s a quick thumbs-up in a Teams chat or a cheeky smile in an email, those tiny icons have found their way into our professional lives. And depending on who you ask, that’s either a welcome shift towards more human connection… or a slippery slope into an unprofessional territory. We live in a world where so much of our communication happens through screens which means our tone of voice can get lost in translation. Emojis offer a way to soften messages, add personality, and make digital interactions feel just a little more, well, human. But here’s the big question: do emojis actually enhance professional communication, or do they risk making us seem less serious, less credible, or even less competent? In this blog, Flourish are diving into both sides of the emoji-in-business debate: the benefits, the backlash, and everything in between. Because love them or hate them, emojis are not going anywhere, and it is probably time we figure out how (and when) to use them wisely.
