Sharing a Milestone - Our First Year at Flourish

Rhys – 4th May 2021

I have had a great first year at Flourish. I feel like I have grown a lot within my role and have not only increased my skillset but also improved in more general ways such as in independence and confidence.

The best part of my first year is the improvement journey itself and thinking of how I started the year compared to how I finished it. I get great satisfaction and pride in reflecting on my growth and can only think of what else I need to improve upon for next year. The team have been great in supporting me when needed and allowing me to get on independently when needed and so I have to thank them for that.

However, this year obviously hasn’t come without challenges. We have had many hectic periods where new work seems to be appearing quicker than we can get the old work completed. These times are challenging but also can be quite fun and certainly makes the days go by. These periods have never beaten us though.

Gianna – 1st June 2021

I’m really excited to be celebrating my first year at Flourish. Although it’s flown by, I feel like I’ve come a long way since writing my first press release. I’ve learnt a huge amount about the world of PR and have really enjoyed working with our clients.

And while it’s been a busy year with constant streams of work flowing, it’s also been packed with fun. With moving offices, the Christmas party and trying out our sea legs for a client rowing event, it’s been great getting to know the team.

Considering the year, we’ve had with various restrictions and cancelled events, it’s been challenging at times to navigate and it feels we’ve missed out on some of the exciting networking events we would usually attend. But these are on their way back and I’m looking forward to what’s in store for the year ahead.

Hannah – 1st June 2021

Flourish has given me the opportunity to have the best of both worlds. As well as working for Flourish, I get to be a University student studying History. This last year has challenged me, pushed me, and stretched me, to develop both academically and socially. I can proudly say that I have come out of my first year at Flourish, as a more knowledgeable, confident person being able to speak to clients, journalists, and help write press releases. After a challenging start, I am now able to juggle my time at Flourish and University work. Although my weeks are manic, it is worth every part of it.

I am still learning and have a way to come in Flourish, however it’s amazing how far my team has helped me develop already. I am so excited for what is ahead and can’t wait to challenge myself even more.

Socially, I have gained valuable friends. There is never a dull moment working in Flourish, with lots of enjoyment, laughter, client events and team lunches. There is always lots of work to be cracking on with, and I am so honoured to be a part of it and able to lend a helping hand.

In sub-Saharan Africa, an interesting relationship takes place hippos and oxpecker birds (honestly, bear with me on this one). The hippo needs help with the ticks and parasites that live on its skin and the oxpeckers help out by picking off the parasites and eating them. The oxpeckers get what they want – a tasty meal. And the hippo gets cleaner, healthier skin. It’s a win-win situation. It's impossible to say whether either species values the other—but each undoubtedly plays a vital role in the other's wellbeing. This example of mutualism often comes to mind when people talk about the relationship between journalists and PRs. It’s a case of mutuality, without question, but there’s often a simmering animosity between the two. To generate truly effective PR you need to understand the needs of both sides. And that’s where Flourish excels.

Let’s be honest - emojis aren’t just for group chats and Instagram captions anymore. Whether it’s a quick thumbs-up in a Teams chat or a cheeky smile in an email, those tiny icons have found their way into our professional lives. And depending on who you ask, that’s either a welcome shift towards more human connection… or a slippery slope into an unprofessional territory. We live in a world where so much of our communication happens through screens which means our tone of voice can get lost in translation. Emojis offer a way to soften messages, add personality, and make digital interactions feel just a little more, well, human. But here’s the big question: do emojis actually enhance professional communication, or do they risk making us seem less serious, less credible, or even less competent? In this blog, Flourish are diving into both sides of the emoji-in-business debate: the benefits, the backlash, and everything in between. Because love them or hate them, emojis are not going anywhere, and it is probably time we figure out how (and when) to use them wisely.

Since 2013, Flourish PR has been helping companies and individuals amplify their visibility through expertly crafted public relations strategies, compelling press releases, and perhaps most crucially in today's climate healthy backlinks. As SEO becomes increasingly competitive, it's easy for even established brands to fall behind in search rankings. While algorithm updates and AI-driven search continue to shift the digital landscape, one thing remains clear: quality backlinks and credible media coverage are still among the most effective tools for sustainable SEO growth. While sharing the knowledge below, we still maintain the importance of having a professional agency with extensive industry experience.
