4 Content Creation New Year’s Resolutions

Leap into action this year and decide on your marketing and PR goals for the coming 12 months. If you’re stuck for ideas, then this is something that Bucks content creation company Flourish PR can certainly help you with. To get you off on the right foot, here are a couple of New Year’s Resolutions as a bit of food for thought.

Create evergreen content

Having an active blog and social media accounts is certainly wise and can be a lot of fun, but you’ve got to think about whether what you’re creating will still be relevant in months or years from now. There are lots of ways in which you can ensure that your content stays fresh for as long as possible – so think about publishing the likes of how-to guides, FAQs, hints and tips, and so on.

These kinds of articles hold their value because they’re irreplaceable and easy to change. If, for example, you write a technical piece and a new piece of technology comes in that changes the way something is done, all you need to do is update your old article and away you go.

Devise a content distribution plan

Sit down to think about the formats you use to share your content, finding out which ones perform the best. A content distribution plan will work out how and when you intend to disseminate your content, whether it’s a blog post, an email marketing campaign or a simple tweet.

Get to grips with content scoring

This is the process of assessing and quantifying the potential of your various pieces of content by monitoring how they perform in terms of lead generation and conversion.

There are countless businesses out there doing much the same work as you, no doubt, and the amount of content that’s being produced is simply staggering. What this means is that you need to produce high-quality content in order for your customers to engage with you over the competition.

And content scoring will help drive a deeper understanding of how pieces are performing, so you can then create similar content in the future.

Try livestreaming on for size

It’s going to be all about live video streaming in the new year and beyond, and brands will miss a trick if they don’t start doing this soon. Deputy director of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Digital Video Center of Excellence Eric John explained that live streaming is now on the increase and it’s a “video phenomenon” that has the “power to help build brands”.

An IAB study recently found that the most common actions in response to seeing an advert during a livestreaming session were remembering what brand was advertised, clicking on an ad and visiting the company in question’s website.

So there are just a few ideas to help you get 2019 off to a great start… which will you begin with first?

Public relations (PR) is not a new invention. In fact, the precursor to modern PR can trace its origins back centuries to the early days of mass media in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Of course, the world has changed considerably since then and the arrival of the internet forced the PR profession, along with many others, to evolve once again. This is when digital PR entered the frame. What is digital PR? As its name suggests, digital PR specifically focuses on reaching your customers in their online worlds. It’s not the same as digital marketing, but digital PR activities should tie in closely with your broader marketing strategy. Digital PR is all about starting conversations with your audience and making sure they see and hear from you in an increasingly noisy online environment. That means it needs to be carefully targeted to ensure it not only reaches the right people but that it also delivers the right message. In this way, it is not dissimilar to traditional PR, which involves placing clients in relevant print publications or broadcast shows to widen their reach. However, in the digital world, life works slightly differently. This means targeted campaigns are particularly important and the messaging you use needs to be adapted for different channels.

In sub-Saharan Africa, an interesting relationship takes place hippos and oxpecker birds (honestly, bear with me on this one). The hippo needs help with the ticks and parasites that live on its skin and the oxpeckers help out by picking off the parasites and eating them. The oxpeckers get what they want – a tasty meal. And the hippo gets cleaner, healthier skin. It’s a win-win situation. It's impossible to say whether either species values the other—but each undoubtedly plays a vital role in the other's wellbeing. This example of mutualism often comes to mind when people talk about the relationship between journalists and PRs. It’s a case of mutuality, without question, but there’s often a simmering animosity between the two. To generate truly effective PR you need to understand the needs of both sides. And that’s where Flourish excels.
